There is an interesting quote from Chris Lien from Business Objects, regarding a trend towards mail planning vs. the traditional focus on mail production. I think Chris makes an important observation here. Mailers will need to be able to pre-plan with greater ease and flexibility, and the ability to do so takes on even greater importance. Mailers will also need to be able to react to last-minute requirements and changes in order to get the best discount and fastest delivery possible from the USPS.
