New Move Update Standards from the USPS

Today’s DMM Advisory has a notice about new Move Update standards that mailers need to be aware of, and prepare for:
The USPS published a notice in today’s Federal Register [HTML | PDF] to revise the Move Update standards for  First-Class Mail and extend the revised standards to Standard Mail. Move Update helps mailers reduce the number of mailpieces that require forwarding or return by matching a mailer’s address records with customer-filed change-of-address orders. Our new standards require mailers to update their mailing lists a minimum of 95 days before mailing, and extend the Move Update requirements to all types of Standard Mail.

These changes will improve the percentage of deliverable addresses for mailings entered at discounted rates and will help us control the costs associated with undeliverable mail. To give mailers time to prepare, the revised standards are effective on November 23, 2008.

Have a great weekend all!

2007 National PCC Day Workshops

Be sure to take advantage of the great USPS resources available courtesy of the Postal Customer Councils.

http://www.usps.com/nationalpcc/pccworkshopbox.htm

Access downloadable Power Point presentations on topics such the new Flats Sequencing System and Intelligent Mail.

I especially recommend the Intelligent Mail presentation, as we are working to support all post-presort facets of this initiative.  Let me know if you have any questions on this topic.

Best wishes,
Lisa

Mail.dat 08-1

Work continues behind the scenes to hammer out a new 08-1 Mail.dat specification. The Mail.dat Working Group is utilizing a great discussion Forum tool in order to facilitate discussion and collaboration with interested parties. With each new specification release, Mail.dat becomes more and more valuable to both mailers and the USPS.

The 08-1 Mail.dat specification will be implemented in January 2008.

Best wishes,
Lisa
